History

The history of this particular event in Toronto started in 2008 when Jesus Mora, a visual artist and a member of the Aztec dance group, offered his studio space located at 539 A St Clair Ave West in Toronto, Canada to celebrate the Day of the dead.

During this celebration, the Aztec Dance Group shared their circle with the community and gathered for the ceremony. About 40 people experienced and collaborated creating an altar, bringing traditional food and decorating the space with traditional paper and art.

Since then, this celebration has grown to include many more community members from many different backgrounds and hopes to be an authentic experience of the Day of the Dead.
